Maggie Mae UPDATE... We have such good news!
We went to Belen, Yucca Veterinary Medical Center, and saw Dr. Sanchez after getting x-rays he determined that she only moved the bone a little and with an increase in anti-inflammatory medication she would be okay. After several days she is back to walking on all 4 legs. We are walking her 3 times a day for 5 - 10 minutes per walk and doing her physical therapy again. She is doing great. She has to stop several times coming back to the house so we know she is not ready to go out any further but she is doing so much better. We are so please with her progress. We would definitely recommend Dr. Sanchez and his team if you are considering TPLO for your animals, he did such an amazing job on our Maggie Mae. This is Maggie Mae my 7 year old Great Pyrenees. She is the love of my life. When the vet told me that I had to either have the TPLO surgery or put her down it actually broke my heart. I just couldn't put my dear sweet Maggie Mae down. A tplo surgery is a reconstructive surgery for ACLs for dogs. They saw down the bone and put in screws and plates to put it all back together again. At first Maggie Mae was doing really really good. Her first week she was out walking she was just rocking the whole recovery. Unfortunately, on Thanksgiving Day she slipped and fell. Right now she is not putting any weight on that leg and every time she puts it down she cries out in pain. We couldn't get her into the vet over the holiday but we'll take her first thing tomorrow morning back to the vet to see what the problem is. I'm terrified that it will mean more surgery or a bigger problem.
I'm hopeful that it could be just a small problem that they can fix in the office or maybe just a readjustment. I'll keep you posted and let you know of her progress. |
